It includes storytelling workshops inspired by a selection of contemporary artworks from the collection of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.emst.gr\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">National Museum of Contemporary Art, Athens (EMST)<\/a>, the photo shooting of portraits, and a photography exhibition about and with refugees and asylum-seekers, now living in the country, benefitting from\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/estia.unhcr.gr\/en\/home\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ESTIA<\/a>, the Emergency Support To Integration and Accommodation programme implemented by\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.unhcr.gr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UNHCR<\/a>, the UN Refugee Agency, and funded by the European Commission.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;50px&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_custom_heading theme_style=&#8221;dt-sc-border-title&#8221; text=&#8221;ESTIA means Home&#8221; font_container=&#8221;tag:h2|font_size:25|text_align:center&#8221; use_theme_fonts=&#8221;yes&#8221; css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1509432569846{margin-bottom: 10px !important;}&#8221;][vc_empty_space][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_column_text]<strong><em>Face Forward \u2026into my home<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0introduces the public to the faces behind the numbers and the Greek refugee crisis, and tells their stories \u2013 the family members, the woman, the man, the teenager. Getting to know these human stories, one realizes that even though they lost almost everything when they were forced to flee their homes, they still share many of the same desires and dreams that we all do. They haven\u2019t lost their identity, their skills or their hope. They just long to resume a normal life.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_column_text]The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/estia.unhcr.gr\/en\/home\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ESTIA<\/a>\u00a0programme helps them to realize exactly this: through accommodation in apartments and provision of monthly cash support, refugees and asylum-seekers are able to lead more secure and normal lives, regain the dignity of choice and gradually take back control of their life. At the same time,\u00a0<em>Face Forward \u2026into my home<\/em>\u00a0introduces these people as residents of a city that has embraced so many cultures, religions and ideas \u2013 a diversity that is defined through social solidarity and mutual respect, so that we can all feel \u201cat Home\u201d.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_column_text]<strong><em>Face Forward \u2026into my home<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0was designed and implemented by\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.emst.gr\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">EMST<\/a>\u2019s Education Department, in collaboration with\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.unhcr.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UNHCR<\/a>, and is funded by <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/echo\/index_en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the European Commission<\/a>, in the framework of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/estia.unhcr.gr\/en\/home\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ESTIA<\/a>\u00a0programme.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;50px&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_custom_heading theme_style=&#8221;dt-sc-border-title&#8221; text=&#8221;<i>Face Forward \u2026into my home<\/i> consists of the following three phases:&#8221; font_container=&#8221;tag:h2|font_size:25|text_align:center&#8221; use_theme_fonts=&#8221;yes&#8221; css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1510730437184{margin-bottom: 10px !important;}&#8221;][vc_empty_space][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;1\/3&#8243;][vc_column_text]<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.faceforward.gr\/en\/3-phases\/storytelling-workshops\/\"><u>Phase I: <strong>Storytelling Workshops<\/strong><\/u><\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Beneficiaries of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/estia.unhcr.gr\/en\/home\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ESTIA<\/a>\u00a0programme are invited to share feelings, memories, hopes and aspirations, inspired by\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.faceforward.gr\/en\/selected-artworks-from-the-emst-collection\/\">artworks from the EMST collection<\/a>. Using these as a starting point and as a stimulus to explore contemporary social issues, including forced migration, social integration, cultural exchange and social interaction, the participants create autobiographical stories that reveal moments from the past, build personal narratives about the present, and make plans for the future.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;1\/3&#8243;][vc_column_text]<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.faceforward.gr\/en\/3-phases\/photographic-portraits\/\"><u>Phase II: <strong>Photographic Portraits<\/strong><\/u><\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Based on the narratives that unfold during the workshops, photographic portraits depict the refugees and asylum-seekers in their daily life. Accompanied by the stories, the portraits shed light on each person\u2019s unique character. At the same time, both photographs and stories reveal the \u201chuman face\u201d of the refugee plight and remind us of the things, emotions, feelings that connect us all \u2013 our common humanity.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;1\/3&#8243;][vc_column_text]<a href=\"http:\/\/www.faceforward.gr\/en\/3-phases\/exhibition-of-photographic-portraits-and-personal-narratives\/\"><u><em>Phase III: <strong>Exhibition of Photographic Portraits and Personal Narratives<\/strong><\/em><\/u><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Following its first successful presentation in Athens at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.emst.gr\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">EMST<\/a> during the winter 2017-2018 and its warm reception in Heraklion, Crete, in September-October 2018, <strong><em>Face<\/em><\/strong> <strong><em>Forward \u2026into my home<\/em><\/strong> is now hosted in the city of Thessaloniki.<\/p>\n<p>The personal narratives and photographic portraits will be presented at the Municipal Exhibition Space (former military house) Pier 1, Thessaloniki Port, from 9 November to 9 December 2018.<\/p>\n<p>The works from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.faceforward.gr\/en\/selected-artworks-from-the-emst-collection\/\">the EMST collection<\/a> that prompted the narratives will be also presented in digital form in the exhibition space, in addition to a short documentary video of the whole project.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the exhibition, educational programmes for students of all ages will be organized in cooperation with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greekstatemuseum.com\/kmst\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">State Museum of Contemporary Art<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/theatroedu.gr\/en-gb\/home.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hellenic Theatre\/Drama &amp; Education Network<\/a>. The permanent home of the Museum is the former Fix brewery on Syngrou Ave., which was reconstructed to open its doors again in late 2016 with the first exhibition Urgent Conversations: Athens \u2013 Antwerp inaugurating the temporary exhibition spaces of EMST simultaneously with the series EMST in the World and attracting thousands of visitors.<\/p>\n<p>From April to July 2017 EMST was the main venue of the acclaimed art exhibition documenta 14, which was organized for the first time in two cities, Athens and Kassel, and attracted global attention. From June to September 2017, the exhibition ANTIDORON. The EMST Collection occupied Fridericianum, the emblematic building of documenta in Kassel, where more than 220 works of the Museum\u2019s collection were presented.<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, the Museum moved in 2017 with all necessary procedures that will lead to its full operation. In more than six decades, the agency has helped tens of millions of people restart their lives.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.unhcr.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UNHCR<\/a>\u00a0is on the front lines of the world\u2019s major humanitarian crises, including Syria, Iraq, Central African Republic, Afghanistan, South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Myanmar, and countless other emergencies.<\/p>\n<p>Apart from its humanitarian assistance programmes,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.unhcr.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UNHCR<\/a>\u00a0is helping refugees rebuild their lives and trying to find solutions for their future.
